assignment 1







This picture is from the commercial of the Toyota car called PASSO. This car is the smallest car in Toyota and it is so popular among women.


In this picture, we can see that it took place in the university, because most of the people are wearing business suits and the building does not seems to be a company. Only women are walking on the street, and some people are walking with friends and some people are walking with mothers. The season is in spring, because there are cherry blossoms. Time is 10:25 in the morning, and the weather is sunny. It appears that they are having an entrance ceremony. In the middle of the road, there is a car with a big flower on the top. This flower is making the car cute and even we see the car a little bit small because the flower is so big.


This picture implies that this car can be ride by women and even by university students, because there are no men in the picture. Usually, Toyota makes a commercial based on cool concepts, for example Lexus and Corolla. However, this car is different. We can see the color pink which is so lovely and this color sometimes represent girl’s color. In addition, this takes place in the university, which the students need to go there mostly every day.  Therefore, it appears to me that we can use the car every day like we go to the campus.

  1. I agree that Toyota was definitely advertising towards a woman audience. There is so much pink in this image and it helps that the crowd admiring the car is made of women. Young women actually. The setting of this image is in front of a university. Its easy to notice the cherry blossoms in this image but even more noticeable is the huge flower growing out of the car. I am not sure why or how that would make a car more appealing to a female audience or really anyone. I feel as though that is going overboard. Toyota had to include a large flower just becuase flowers itself could be associated with younger women (despite a giant one does not look too good on top of a car).

    1. Yes, definitely, Toyota is trying to sell this car to the young women. However, I don't know the real reason why they put the big flower on the top of the car.

  2. Toyota is definitely trying to attract young women but especially in young women in college. The location of the car with the people around it, mostly women and some children, aid in portraying the car as the best for women of all ages. I have to agree with Ivan in saying that the flower on the top is a bit much, but you have a really analysis.

  3. I agree that the flowers and pink colors make this a feminine image, which is why it's appealing so many women in the photo. I don't really get why Toyota is trying to attract just women, or maybe it isn't, and that only women happen to be attracted to it. I guess since this car is the smallest and a cute-sized car of Toyota, it attracts more women than men. Good job on your analysis.
